Op zaterdag 21 september aanstaande, wordt wereldwijd wederom World Cleanup Day gehouden. In Suriname wordt deze internationale activiteit groots aangepakt op initiatief van Stichting Support Recycling Suriname (SuReSur). Ook dit jaar doen honderden vrijwilligers, meerdere bedrijven, milieuorganisaties, en overheidsinstanties mee aan de landelijke schoonmaakactie. Samen met enkele districten worden ruim 20 locaties schoongemaakt en ontdaan van zwerfafval op zaterdag 21 september. Stichting SuReSur, concludeert uit de welwillendheid van partners en vrijwilligers, dat het bewustzijn voor een schoon Suriname steeds grotere vormen begint aan te nemen. De voorzitter van Stichting SuReSur, is van mening, dat hoewel we als land nog een lange weg hebben te gaan en het milieuvraagstuk nog meer aspecten kent dan zwerfafval en plastic flessen, te merken is dat steeds meer Surinamers aandacht geven en waarde hechten aan een schoon land.<\/h3>\n

Suriname doet sinds 2018 mee aan World Clean Up Day. De eerste internationale Clean Up begon in 2018 in het kleine, Noord-Europese Estland, waar 50.000 mensen zich verenigden om het hele land op te ruimen in slechts vijf uur. Op die dag werd een wereldwijde burgerbeweging geboren en verspreidde zich als een lopend vuurtje over de hele wereld en sprak tot de verbeelding van mensen in andere landen, die werden ge\u00efnspireerd om hetzelfde voorbeeld te volgen met dezelfde ambitie, namelijk een schoon land. Sindsdien doen 197 landen mee aan de clean up, om het wereldwijde afvalprobleem aan te pakken en een duurzame wereld op te bouwen. Stichting SuReSur en partners, vrijwilligers en bedrijven leggen dit jaar dan ook de nadruk op het geven van een duurzaam karakter aan de jaarlijkse schoonmaakactiviteiten. Naast het schoonhouden van de locaties op World Clean Up Day, worden burgers, overheden en bedrijven gemotiveerd en opgeroepen gedurende het hele jaar de verantwoordelijkheid op zich te nemen hun directe omgeving vrij te houden van zwerfafval. World Clean Up Day is een aanmoediging om deel te nemen aan de opruimingsacties en een duurzamere toekomst te cre\u00ebren.<\/p>\n

SuReSur wijst erop, dat er dagelijks minimaal \u00e9\u00e9n kilo huishoudelijk afval wordt geproduceerd per huishouding. Door productie en verbruiksgoederen komt er jaarlijks 3.500 kg bedrijfsafval per persoon bij. Het afval dat we samen produceren heeft een niet te onderschatten impact op ons milieu. SuReSur heeft sinds haar oprichting in 2015 landelijk ruim 160 bakken geplaatst op strategische plekken voor het inzamelen van plasticflessen, plastic-verpakkingsmateriaal, bierblikjes en andere materiaal dat recyclebaar is. In 2022 is een begin gemaakt met het plaatsen van inzamelbakken voor glas. Het verzamelde materiaal wordt afgegeven aan recyclebedrijven, die het verwerkt en het daarna verscheept naar het buitenland of er zelf andere herbruikbare eindproducten van maken.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
