Het CARICOM Development Fund (CDF) heeft op woensdag 5 juli, energieprojecten voor Suriname goedgekeurd. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi heeft aan de zijlijn van de 45e CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting, een ontmoeting gehad met de leiding van het CDF, waaronder Rodinald Soomer, Chief Executive Officer van het instituut.<\/p>\n

Het CDF is een instelling van de Caribische Gemeenschap met als mandaat financi\u00eble of technische bijstand te verlenen aan achtergestelde landen, regio\u2019s en sectoren in de gemeenschap. Met het oog daarop is tijdens het onderhoud met Soomer afgesproken dat Suriname financi\u00eble ondersteuning zal ontvangen van het instituut. Een bedrag van 10 miljoen US-dollars wordt gegeven in de vorm van een lening tegen een lage rente voor energievoorziening in het binnenland. Daarnaast wordt een bedrag van 500.000 US-dollar dat eveneens gebruikt zal worden voor energieprojecten, vrijgemaakt als grant.
