De internationale befaamde zoukformatie Kassav, belooft op zondag 28 december een fantastische show te zullen weggeven. Helemaal in de OwruYari sfeer! Dit vertelt promotor Ivan van Ivan Worldwide, die samen met The Young Productions de groep naar Suriname haalt. \u201cHet is de eerste keer dat de zoukformatie in deze periode van het jaar, waar iedereen zich in een feeststemming bevindt, Suriname bezoekt. Ze hebben een feestrepertoire met al hun grote hits in elkaar gezet\u201d, vult hij aan. Kassav komt rond middernacht op het podium en gaat twee uren nonstop optreden. In het voorprogramma staan: Combinatie XVI, South South West, Kasimex House band en Scrappy W. Na Suriname vliegen ze gelijk richting Cura\u00e7ao voor een optreden op 29 december. Kassav bestaat ondertussen ongeveer net zo lang als het aantal platen dat onder hun naam is uitgebracht, en dat ligt boven de 30. Het zevental, dat oorspronkelijk afkomstig is van de Caribische eilandjes Guadeloupe en Martinique, besloot eind jaren ’70 hun favoriete muziekstijl Carnival (Zuid-Amerikaans carnaval) in een moderner jasje te steken. Deze swingende versie met kompa, salsa, calypso en zelfs rockinvloeden, bleek enorm aan te slaan en een heuse nieuwe muziekstijl was geboren: zouk.
