Op 15 december om 16.50 controleert de douane de passagiers van een collectieve taxi ter hoogte van Macouria: in het voertuig zitten vier muzikanten en een vrouw die allemaal de Surinaamse nationaliteit hebben. De douane vindt in eerste instantie geen verdovende middelen in de koffers. De test is negatief voor de bagage, maar niet voor de muzikanten. De vijf passagiers worden overgebracht naar het medisch centrum voor radiologisch onderzoek. Het resultaat wordt bevestigd: de test is positief. Overduidelijk positief, want tijdens de controle van Evelyne Awomba, de vrouwelijke passagier, vallen acht bolletjes coca\u00efne op de grond, terwijl zij haar kleren uittrekt. Later bleek dat zij nog eens zeven bolletjes had ingeslikt. In totaal vervoerde zij 645 gram, een hoeveelheid waarvoor zij 3000 euro zou ontvangen, indien de goederen hun bestemming hadden bereikt. Tijdens de verdediging benadrukte de advocaat de moeilijke familiale omstandigheden waarbij de vrouw in financi\u00eble nood zit en noodgedwongen was om tot het uiterste te gaan om in haar basisbehoeftes te voorzien. Maar het parket zag dat de vrouw acht jaren eerder al eens was veroordeeld. Ook toen werd zij aangehouden voor het in bezit hebben en transporteren van verdovende middelen. Eveline Awomba is uiteindelijk veroordeeld tot een celstraf van vier jaar zonder mogelijkheid tot vervroegde invrijheidstelling.
